Billy Blue Records have dropped a new single today for Carson Peters & Iron Mountain, a Jim Croce song from 1972 called Walkin’ Back to Georgia.
Carson and the boys put the grass to it, sped it up considerably, and made it into a fine bluegrass number. The song tells of a man, broken down and busted, trying to make his way back to the woman who swore to always love him, hoping that she’ll accept him back.
The young fiddler says that it’s one they’ve been meaning to record for a while now.
“We are so excited to release this grassified Jim Croce tune! Croce is one of the best singer/songwriters of all time, and all of us in the band love his stuff. We have talked about cutting this song for a long time, and we’re looking forward to putting it in our upcoming performances this year. We hope our fans love it as much as we do!”
With Peters on fiddle and lead vocal, support comes from his Iron Mountain bandmates Austin Tate on mandolin, James McDowell on banjo, Ethan Ratliff on guitar, and Taylor Parks on bass.
It’s good stuff. Check it out.
Walkin’ Back to Georgia is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
