Brand New Box of Matches, the Knoxville-based duo of Ryan Hardison and Elizabeth Sherman, have released not one, but two new Christmas singles this season. They’ve recorded a pair of holiday classics, with several of their friends helping out.
First up is Silent Night, sung all over the world in every imaginable language, written originally in German during the early part of the 19th century. Ryan says that this is the first song he learned to play on the banjo when he picked it up nearly 25 years ago, and Elizabeth shows off her Spanish language skills singing a verse en español.
Evie Andrus joins in on fiddle with Steve Potts on mandolin, as does Ryan and Elizabeth’s friend Anne Singleton on harmony vocals.
Have a listen.
Next is a grassed-up version of Feliz Navidad, a pop Christmas number first recorded in 1970 by Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Jose Feliciano. Sung in both Spanish and English, the song is popular wherever Spanish is spoken during the holiday season, especially in Caribbean nations.
Check it out.
Both Silent Night and Feliz Vavidad from Brand New Box of Matches are available from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
