615 Hideaway Records is back with a new single from David Parmley and his upcoming tribute to The Bluegrass Cardinals, Cardinal Tradition (Now & Then).
Sure, it’s a little bit odd to release a tribute to a band for whom you were the lead singer for 18 years, and its single most defining musical component. But in truth, this record is more a tribute to Parmley, who just celebrated his 50th anniversary as a bluegrass artist, and the many talented musicians who played with the Cardinals over the years.
Not to mention their tremendous contributions to the music, for which they were recently honored with induction into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Oh, and David’s smooth, and oh-so-distinctive baritone voice.
Released today is Turning Acres Into Rows, written by Mark “Brink” Brinkman and David Stewart, on a topic Parmley has covered memorable many times. To wit, the uncomplicated, but not easy, way of life in farming families.
He says it grabbed him right away.
“I loved this song the first time I heard it! I think it has a good message about a simpler way of life.
Although not a Bluegrass Cardinal song, it reminds me of my dad, Don Parmley, and his last years living in Kentucky. I bought a tractor and he kept it in his garage.
Spending the day on that tractor was his favorite thing to do! I know he would love this song!”
David handles all the vocals, with Cody Kilby on guitar, Scott Vestal on banjo, Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Tim Crouch on fiddle, Evan Winsor on bass, and Mike Rogers on drums.
It’s always a treat to hear something new from David Parmley, and this is no exception.
