Congratulations to Justin Jenkins, banjo picker with Grasstowne, on the birth of a son, Eli Dean Jenkins earlier this morning. Eli and Justin's girlfriend, Reba Collier are doing fine. He hit the scene at 7 lbs, 14 oz, and 21 inches long. Welcome Eli, and congratulations to Justin and Reba!
Last week we shared the wonderful news that Herschel Sizemore had come through his cancer treatment with a clean bill of health. His wife, Joyce, is still undergoing treatment for breast cancer - as is one of their two daughters. The Sizemores have always lived frugally, and have carefully provided for their later years. But [...]
With Steve Gulley making the jump to Dale Ann Bradley's band, Alan Bibey now reigns as the sole founding partner with Grasstowne. He, Gulley and Phil Leadbetter formed the group in 2006 after they each made the decision to leave their respective performing vehicles. Phil left in 2010 to pursue other interests, and is now [...]
Bill Monroe’s 100th year celebration continues with the release on November 22 of the Rural Rhythm Records album Bill Monroe 100th Year Celebration - Live at Bean Blossom. The commemorative album was recorded during the 45th Annual Bill Monroe Memorial Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival, at Bean Blossom, Indiana, this past June, when the record label [...]
This festival report comes from T.J. Boley, who we hope will be one of our regular correspondents when the site relaunches in September. Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, S.C. would seem to be the perfect venue for a Bluegrass event. A mile of beachfront, an Olympic size pool, paved campsites, rental homes and [...]
Grasstowne is scheduled for a visit with Dennis Jones tomorrow (4/16) on Goin’ Across The Mountain, airing Saturday on WNCW from Spindale, NC. The band has a show tomorrow night in nearby Black Mountain, so Alan Bibey and Steve Gulley have agreed to come on at 2:00 p.m. as guest DJs. Dennis will talk with [...]
Grasstowne has put together a tongue-in-cheek video to promote their new Rural Rhythm CD, Kickin' Up Dust. It finds the guys in "fat cat" mode, waxing eloquent about the joys of rail travel from a converted passenger car at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, FL. Dressed in their finest threads, they also offer self-deprecating [...]
Wow... lots of new releases to note for March 22. What is it about the end of March? Rural Rhythm Records has three projects that hit today. I'm sure that we will have more to say about each of them, but here's a quick heads up. First up is Kickin' Up Dust from Grasstowne. This [...]
Alan Bibey checked in this morning from Grasstowne's ongoing tour of California. They have been on the west coast since last week, and have another week yet before heading back east. Their new CD, Kickin' Up Dust, is due from Rural Rhythm on March 22 and you would expect that Al would be be kickin' [...]
We had a chance yesterday to catch up with Alan Bibey, one half of the brain trust (with Steve Gulley) behind Grasstowne. Al tells us that the first airing of the band's appearance on Reno's Old Time Music Festival is set for this Saturday (1/8) at 7:00 p.m. (EST). The show, hosted by Ronnie Reno, [...]
