Soldier’s Heart from Liam Purcell

Liam Purcell’s latest single dropped last week on Pinecastle Records, one he wrote called Soldier’s Heart, which tells a fictional story based on a real artifact.

Despite his youth, Purcell has been knocking around in professional bluegrass for nearly a decade. With his band Cane Mill Road, fellow teens at the time, Liam took his adventurous modern bluegrass sound to stages all over the world. Now graduated from college, he is giving music his all, with a new Cane Mill Road in tow.

Liam explained how he came up with this song.

“I got the hook for Soldier’s Heart from an old bomber jacket that was my Grandfather’s. He served overseas in the Air Force, but never talked about his time there very much. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with cancer while I was in my teens, and I still miss him every day.

My Grandma gave me several of his things, including this jacket, which was inscribed with the words, ‘When I die I’ll go to Heaven, for I’ve already spent my time in Hell.’ It inspired me to write the rest of this song with him in mind, as well as the many veterans and active military members across the globe.”

Support comes from his Cane Mill Road bandmates. With Liam on mandolin, guitar, fiddle, reso-guitar, and lead vocal, we have Zack Vickers on banjo, Ari Silver on guitar, and Teddy Kent on bass. Zack and Ari added vocal harmonies.

Have a listen.

Soldier’s Heart is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
