Odd One Out from Amanda Cook

Amanda Cook’s new single from Mountain Fever Records is an anthem for all those people who have felt that they just don’t fit, and observe themselves on the outside looking in.

Odd One Out was written by Heather Berry Mabe, and looks at how someone experiences life when it appears to them as though everyone else’s world is perfect, when of course it isn’t.

Cook says that this experience, which is especially troubling for young women, is based on a false impression.

Odd One Out reminds us that the feeling of not fitting in is universal. No matter how flawless someone appears, every one of us carries doubts, scars, and insecurities we’re afraid to show. This song leans into that shared vulnerability, and asks whether blending in is worth the cost.

When Heather Mabe sent this demo to me, I was completely bowled over with emotion, the track gave me goosebumps from the very first listen. Heather is one of my favorite artists, and getting the chance to record a song she’s written is truly an honor.”

The track was recorded with Amanda’s touring group: Carolyne Van Lierop Boone on banjo, Troy Boone on mandolin, Justin Alexander on guitar, George Mason on fiddle, and Joshua Faul on bass. Gaven Largent joins them on reso-guitar.

It’s a lovely song, to which Cook gives a delightful reading.

Check it out.

Odd One Out is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
