Love Found Me from Greg Blake

Greg Blake, 2023/2025 IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year, five-time SPBGMA Guitarist of the Year, and lead singer/guitarist with Special Consensus, is a busy man who also performs as a solo artist. He has just released a very special single on Turnberry Records, Love Found Me, that is befitting the just-passed Valentine’s Day.

Blake lost his beloved first wife, Tracey, after nearly 40 years of marriage to an aneurysm almost four years ago. Then he found love again, even though he wasn’t looking, in Joy Sue King, and they were wed in January 2024. No surprise that their union spawned a song.

Blake explained how the tune came to be.

“I was visiting with a friend several months ago, and they were asking me about how my wife, Joy Sue, and I met. After sharing the usual details of time, place, circumstances and so forth, my friend said, ‘I’m so glad you found love again.’ The first words out of my mouth were, ‘I wasn’t looking for love – love found me!’ And their immediate response was ‘that sounds like a song’ and I said, ‘You’re right, it does!’

Not too long after that I was visiting my songwriting buddy, David Stewart, up in Buffalo, WY.  I told him I had a hook for a song that we ought to write sometime. The next morning he had ninety percent of it written! We tweaked a few words, and then I recorded a rough demo into his phone and the rest is history.”

Joy Sue shared her feelings for Greg.

“I didn’t fall for you because I wanted a relationship. I fell for you because, after a long time, I felt real love-calm, safe, like I was home. I fell for your smile. For the way you make my heart feel happy. For the way you always make me feel wanted.”

The love song is beautiful, touching, and gives all those who are lonely hope in the future. See these the chorus:

I wasn’t looking for love, love found me
It came outta the blue like a storm on the sea
It took ahold of my heart and set me free
I wasn’t looking for love, love found me

Personnel on the project are bluegrass A-listers: Andy Leftwich on fiddle/mandolin/guitar, Josh Swift on reso-guitar, Darin Vincent on bass, with Becky Buller adding second lead and harmony vocals.

Buller shared, “It’s an honor and a joy to be asked to sing with Greg on this poignantly personal song. His is one of my favorite voices in bluegrass music today.”

Give it a listen and I think you’ll agree. Then you’ll see why Del McCoury calls Blake “a singer’s singer.”

Love Found Me is available from streaming services online, and at Get It Played for radio hosts.
