Lonesome Side of Town from Teddy Barneycastle

Huckleberry Records offers a new single from bluegrass vocalist Teddy Barneycastle, a song that mirrors his own heartbreak, faith, patience, and restoration, though it wasn’t one he wrote.

Lonesome Side of Town was written by Pat Flynn, of New Grass Revival fame, and Teddy recalls hearing it for the first time while he was driving the Sideline bus from Florida to Kentucky in the wee hours of the morning. He said that he was all alone in the driver’s seat, and when he started listening to Pat’s demo, he was seized by the lyrics that seemed to be telling his own story.

Some time earlier, Barneycastle and his wife had separated, divorced, and lived two years apart, but he never gave up hope of a reunion. After five years, the two decided to fight for their marriage, and trust in God to show them the way.

Teddy says that it perfectly reflects what’s told in the lyrics of this song.

“God used the loneliest, most broken time of our lives to minister to others. Not every story ends in reconciliation, but for us, waiting on the lonesome side of town led to the restoration of our family. Love is patient. Love is kind. Most of all, love never fails.”

Teddy sings the lead, supported by Seth Taylor on mandolin, Scott Vestal on banjo, Andy Leftwich on fiddle, Pat Flynn on guitar, Dave Francis on bass, and Billy Thomas on percussion. Heather Lawson and George Pendergrass sing harmony.

Lonesome Side of Town is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via Get It Played.
