The power of the social media influencer is making its mark on our music.
Eva Trout, better known online as Lady Moon or Lady Moon Cries, has been popular on the socials for some time, performing Celtic music and her own Celtic-inspired music on her octave mandolin. With nearly 50,000 subscribers on YouTube, and similar numbers on Instagram and TikTok, she has exposed a great many people to the beauty of the mandolin, and the Irish insistence on ornamentation.
Now Eastman Guitars has introduced a special instrument for her, which they call the Lady Moon Signature octave mandolin. It was designed with Eva’s cooperation, retaining some of the features of her vintage octave, which she calls “old lady.” With a 21” scale and a 1 3/8″ nut, it should be comfortable for anyone experienced with the octave mandolin.
Eastman uses a torrified flat solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides, with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and a lunar moth shaped pick guard just below the oval sound hole. It makes for a very striking instrument, with it’s crescent moon-shaped pearl inlays in the fingerboard.
It sells for $749.
Trout says of signature model Eastman…
“When you pick up an instrument, you should enjoy the sound so much, you don’t want to put it down. I wanted to create something that would help others fall in love with playing, the way I did.”
