Krazy Kup and Brick City Bluegrass report

It was a fun bluegrass weekend in Florida, starting at a famous, cozy venue called the Krazy Kup in Plant City.

Becky Buller and Ned Luberecki are doing some duo shows this winter. Stop number two on their tour was at the packed Krazy Kup. Everyone enjoyed an up close and personal evening with these fine entertainers.

The next stop was a what will become one of Florida’s favorite community festivals, the Brick City Bluegrass Festival in Ocala. This was the third year for this event, held at Ocala’s beautiful city park called Citizens Circle. It was packed for a full afternoon of bluegrass music.

The MC was a young gal named Heather. The only word to describe her is “bubbly!” She held court with band members and audience members. She helped Buddy Childers celebrate his 94th birthday.

Florida band, The Flattlanders, kicked off the afternoon. They provided a solid opening to the festivities. I chatted with mandolin player Joey Lazio. The band had played here the first year, and he was amazed at the size of the crowd.

Becky and Ned were up next. Two people can put together a lot of music. They feed off each other’s energy and Becky even provides percussion when needed!

Authentic Unlimited is a crowd favorite wherever they appear. They are solid musicians and top-notch vocalists – and they have some good songwriters too.

The Lonesome River Band has been entertaining audiences for over forty years. Sammy Shelor has kept the LRB sound consistent for many of those years.

Bronwyn Keith-Hynes and Jason Carter closed out the show. Each has their own band, but gig timing happened so that Jason could join Bronwyn on this tour. Her band is fairly new. Bronwyn said they were enjoying playing music together on the road instead of just at home. The audience gets full measure from her performance. She and Jason did some strong twin fiddling throughout the show with a couple tunes of just the two of them on stage.

This festival can grow!
