Like many bluegrass artists, Gary Brewer & The Kentucky Ramblers, take most of December off from touring. Brewer, who performs with his two songs, Wayne and Mason, doesn’t just retreat into his warm den to spend time with the family, he also gives back to his community during the holidays.
Family is big for the Brewers, who live on a large farm property in West Point, KY. There they run a number of family businesses in addition to the band, including a Tae Kwon Do school where Gary presides as an 8th degree grand master black belt. Over the years he has trained a great many law enforcement officers, including members of Louisville Police, the FBI, Homeland Security, plus federal marshals, and people with the CIA and Fort Knox.
This year Brewer launched a Christmas bus tour to benefit Louisville Metro Police foundation, and their Shop with a Cop program to distribute gifts to children in need within the Southwest Jefferson County Kentucky community. Gary took his tour bus to a set of designated locations, where fans and friends could drop off gifts, get to meet and talk with Brewer, and have a tour of the bus.
Gary also served as honorary Grand Marshal for the City of West Point Christmas Parade and tree lighting ceremony. He and the band participated in the West Point, A Small Town Christmas event on December 13, and on the 16th, appeared with Richard Ciresi, the Mayor of West Point on WDRB TV for their Jude’s Jingle Tree fundraiser, delivering a donation for Home of the Innocents in Louisville, who provide behavioral and mental health services to troubled young people.
All this while finishing up work on a new project for Pinecastle Records, for whom he has recorded for many years. A new single from Gary Brewer & The Kentucky Ramblers is expected soon.
