A new single is available this month from Red Camel Collective, one written and sung by guitarist Heather Berry Mabe, just released by Pinecastle Records.
The band is in high spirits at the moment, as their debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry is set for February 27. Perhaps they’ll perform this song?
Heather shared a few words about this latest release, Finding Your Way Home, in which she speaks in verse to a number of wild creatures about how each of them knows how to get back home.
“Each animal mentioned in this song is free-spirited, unaware of the dangers and challenges they face for survival. They have a goal of finding their way to their safe space, home. I feel that we are all on a journey much like that and that’s why I felt inspired to write this song.
I first wrote this as a poem and couldn’t seem to find a tune. I sent the lyrics to my buddy Scott Patrick who came up with the perfect melody.
This song is so dear to my heart, and it’s probably my favorite that I have ever written.”
It starts with a repeated mandolin figure from Johnathan Dillon, before the band comes in with Heather on guitar, Tony Mabe on banjo, and Curt Love on bass. Stephen Burwell sits in on fiddle.
They take it at a smart bluegrass clip, and, as always, Heather sings it beautifully. Have a listen.
Finding Your Way Home can be found at popular download and streaming services online, and for radio programmers at AirPlay Direct.
We’ll have more coverage of Red Camel Collective on the Opry after the fact.
