We all know how important timing is in music. But there’s a different sort of timing that matters in terms of the music industry, like picking the right time to release a new song to the market.
Junior Sisk and Turnberry Records just hit the nail on the head with their new single, Brand New Whippoorwill, which is available today. The song is all about the breaking of spring, with all the signs we are currently experiencing in the southeast described in the lyrics.
It was written by David Coriell and Mark “Brink” Brinkman, and tells of hearing the cry of the whippoorwill as a new brood comes of age.
Junior says that he jumped on this one right away.
“When I first heard this song, I knew it was written just for me. I’m an old country boy who spends most of my time in the mountains, or on the lake, when I’m not on the road. The whippoorwill is a very special bird for me. It’s so calming to hear one late in the evening. They’re not around like they used to be, so to hear one fire up just trips my trigger… like a new bluegrass singer singing a song like it should be sang!”
The track is recorded with Sisk’s talented road band. Junior sings lead and plays guitar, with Heather Berry Mabe on guitar and harmony vocal, Tony Mabe on banjo and harmony vocal, Johnathan Dillon on mandolin, and Curt Love on bass. Michael Cleveland adds his fiddle as well.
It’s a mighty strong piece of work. Check it out.
Brand New Whippoorwill is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via Get It Played.
