Bluegrass Hall of Fame named in 250 Places to Celebrate America

When Smithsonian Magazine published a list of 250 Places to Celebrate America during this semiquincentennial year, they included the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum as one of their choices. The Hall, in Owensboro, KY, tells the story of the music through a series of static and interactive exhibits, and hosts concerts there regularly as well as their annual ROMP festival during the summer.

The article suggests 250 spots across the US where travelers can learn more about specific aspects of our shared culture, and describes the Hall of Fame thusly…

Billed as the world’s only museum of its kind, this sprawling space, with both a 450-seat indoor theater and an outdoor stage, is dedicated to preserving the history of bluegrass music, which is rooted in the musical traditions of the Appalachian Mountains.

Executive Director of the Hall of Fame, Adam Engelhardt, expressed their gratitude for the nod.

“Being recognized by Smithsonian Magazine is an incredible honor and a testament to the impact of bluegrass music and the artists, fans, and community that keep this tradition alive. We’re proud to represent Kentucky and American roots music on this national stage, especially during this milestone moment for the country.”

The list was winnowed down from more than 500 potential sites, and all of us who love bluegrass music should be proud of its inclusion.

The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Admission for adults is $14, $12 for seniors and active duty military, and $12 for students aged 6-12. Children five and under are admitted at no charge.

Museum members can always visit for free.
