The Grascals turn up with a new single today, released with Billy Blue Records.
Bend in the River comes from writers Billy Droze and Michael Wright, a song that blends the pleasant sound of bluegrass music, and the cheery sound of the banjo and fiddle, with a dark story of the sort that Billy Droze excels in creating.
Grascals guitarist John Bryan, who sings the lead vocal, shared his initial reacting to this song.
“Danny Roberts got the song demo from the writers, Billy Droze and Michael Wright, and shared it with all of us. We were hooked immediately—it’s such a happy melody for a song with such tragic lyrics, and by the time the plot twists hit, we knew we had to record it.
Bend In The River proves there’s nothing more dangerous than a scorned lover.”
We hear all the Grascals on this cut, supporting John in the studio. Danny Roberts is on mandolin, Kristin Scott Benson on banjo, Jamie Johnson on guitar, Jamie Harper on fiddle, and Kyle Perkins on bass. The two Jamies sing harmony.
It’s a standout song, as are all that come from Billy Droze, and The Grascals do it to perfection.
