Lonesome River Band is going hard into 2026, having just released their second single of the new year with Mountain Home Music, There Where The River Rolls Around.
It showcases the band’s ability to seamlessly blend old time and bluegrass music, fitting perfectly within what people enjoy hearing in acoustic music these days.
Bandleader and banjo player Sammy Shelor says that they went from hearing the demo to working up the song in short order.
“We got this song from our long time songwriting friend, Billy Smith. As we listened to the song one late night going down the road in the bus, the arrangement just fell into place and we began working on it. A haunting song about leaving home searching for more and longing to be back. Thanks Billy!”
Smith had previously contributed a number of the band’s previous hits, including Hobo Blues and Crazy Heart.
There Where The River Rolls Around is sung by LRB’s extra-talented mandolinist, Adam Miller, with able support from bandmates Shelor on banjo, Mike Hartgrove on fiddle, Jesse Smathers on guitar, and Kameron Keller on bass.
The simple melody grows on you quickly as the lyrics grab your attention, while the band gradually falls in together. You’ll find yourself hitting repeat as the song just doesn’t seem long enough.
