Gas and Oil from The Travelin’ McCourys

The Travelin’ McCourys have a new single on offer, one written and sung by bassist Alan Bartram, that celebrates the working class roots of the families that raised them.

It’s one called Gas and Oil, which comes from Alan’s experience working alongside his father in the timber business.

Gas and Oil is a snapshot of fond memories working with my dad in the woods as a young teen. He has a select timber buying and cutting operation, and I spent a few months here and there carrying chainsaw gas and bar oil, saws, dragging cable and chains to skid logs, and generally being a ‘gopher.’ It’s hard work and I miss it now and then.”

Longtime McCoury fans know that Del McCoury, who sired the two band leaders here, did his own share of difficult labor before becoming a bluegrass star, often at the same time as he was touring on weekends with The Dixie Pals.

Gas and Oil is delivered with that trademark McCoury swagger, performed by Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Rob McCoury on banjo, Cody Kilby on guitar, Christian Ward on fiddle, and Bartram on bass and lead vocal.

Have a listen.

Gas and Oil is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
