The Midwinter Bluegrass Festival celebrated 40 years of mid-winter picking in the Mile High City with another great festival, featuring the best of Colorado bluegrass artists alongside top touring bands like Volume Five, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, and Shelby Means.

As always, there was jamming going on all hours of the day and night in the hotel, and there were organized jams like the old-time jam, women’s jam, and the beginner’s jams.

The band scramble is always a favorite event where folks put their names into the hat to be randomly assigned into groups who then play three songs, competing for a year-long subscription to Artist’s Works. As you’ll note from the photos, one of the bands had a surprise member, a fellow who went by the name of “Bill Fold” playing guitar.
