Bo McCarty is another bluegrass super-fan who has dedicated much of his life to promoting the music. A native Kentuckian, his long-running radio show, The Blue Road, is heard on several stations in the Commonwealth, and he is a regular presence at festivals and concerts, often as MC.
Known colloquially as The Bo-Man, he has friends across the spectrum of bluegrass lovers and professionals alike, and they are coming together now to offer assistance as McCarty faces a battle with cancer.
A benefit concert is scheduled for March 28 at the Boyd County High School in Ashland, KY, with performers, sound reinforcement, and all arrangements being donated by Bo’s friends.
Set to appear are Southern Legacy, Kevin Denney, Caleb Daugherty & Neo-Grass, Hammertowne, Chris Davis Band, Step Into The Blue, Blue Debut, Rob McNurlin, String Therapy, and Colonel Dreydon Gordon.
It all starts at 2:00 p.m., with raffles and auctions, plus food for sale, with all proceeds going to help Bo with medical costs. Tickets are only $20 at the door, and children under 12 will be admitted at no charge with a paid adult ticket. Additional donations will o course be accepted.
For those who would like to help, but are unable to attend, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched online, where financial contributions of any amount can be safely and securely processed using a major credit card, PayPal, Venmo, Google Pay, or Apple Pay.
Bo McCarty has given so much to bluegrass. Here’s a chance for the community to give back.
