Sound Biscuit Records has a new single today from Laney & Bishop, i.e., Colby Laney and Danielle Bishop, an east Tennessee bluegrass and Americana duo, one called Little Horse of Mine.
The song is one Colby wrote, inspired by a long ride through the Smoky Mountains, a true story from his childhood about a dependable friend named Red. He and Danielle both grew up around horses, and share a love for these magnificent animals, as does Buddy Melton, who contributes a third harmony part on the chorus. Melton has known Bishop for years, and is a fellow horseman who actually bought Danielle’s first horse as a gift for his daughter.
This love for animals extends to Laney & Bishop’s non-musical life, where they run LAB’s Labradors, a family-owned kennel that is dedicated to raising healthy, champion-line Labrador Retrievers for companionship, hunting, and show.
Little Horse of Mine finds Danielle singing lead and playing fiddle, with Colby on guitar, mandolin, bass, and harmony vocal. Buddy adds his own harmony part.
The song comes with a melancholy conclusion, so be prepared. Horse lovers may want to have a tissue handy.
Have a listen.
Little Horse of Mine is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via Get It Played and AirPlay Direct.
