Sister Sadie with Ken Irwin and Marian Leighton Levy of Down The Road Records
Sister Sadie, the all-female bluegrass group led by veteran fiddler Deanie Richardson, has announced a new label partnership with Down The Road Records.
The label is the second story effort of the three founders of Rounder Records, Ken Irwin, Marian Leighton Levy, and Bill Nowlin. After building Rounder Records into an industry phenomenon as a small independent label, the trio sold the company and retired, having spent roughly five decades in business together. But idleness didn’t sit well with these successful entrepreneurs, so they reunited under the Down The Road brand to continue producing the best of contemporary bluegrass music.
And this team, which has already released a number of critically acclaimed projects, including Arcadia, the recent album from Alison Krauss & Union Station, was just what Richardson wanted for their next one.
“I have always wanted to work with Ken Irwin, and had honestly thought that time would never come. To get that chance now on this fifth Sister Sadie record is a dream come true.
This band is the best it’s ever been. The writing, the musicianship, and the stellar vocals are truly inspiring, and make me want to work even harder every single day. Teaming up with Down The Road feels like the perfect next step.
Down the Road shares the same values, integrity, and commitment to the music as Sister Sadie. We look forward to putting out the best music of Sister Sadie with Down The Road Records.”
Irwin returned her high praise with his own.
“We’ve been massive Sister Sadie fans for years, and have hoped for a chance to work together for a long time. When the timing finally aligned, it felt exactly right.
We’re incredibly proud and delighted to announce that Down The Road Records is partnering with this wonderful group on their stunning new album.”
Expect to hear more about this next album soon.
In the meantime, Sister Sadie is about to embark on their spring tour all along the eastern US. Full tour details can be found online.
