Over this past weekend, Tara Linhardt visited legendary bluegrass bassist Tom Gray at his home, and recorded this video of their conversation. Tom, of course, served as bassist with several important bluegrass groups based around Washington, DC and its environs, including The Country Gentlemen and The Seldom Scene.
He lays out his long career in this sort of “oral history project,” nicely captured by Tara and her husband in a two-camera shoot, running to an hour and a half.
It’s a must for serious fans of either band, of Tom’s music after leaving the Scene, or anyone interested in the early days of the DC bluegrass scene.
