Tucson video from Trey Hensley

Pinecastle Records has released a live, in-studio music video for their new single with Trey Hensley. It’s full of the soulful singing and fiery flatpicking that has marked this talented artist’s career since he was a teen.

All grown up now, with a family of his own, Trey has launched a solo career after a decade touring the world with reso-guitar wizard Rob Ickes. A debut album, Can’t Outrun The Blues, is expected in March, with the latest single, Tucson, the subject of the new video.

It’s one he wrote, which Hensley says just popped out one day.

Tucson is a song that’s been kicking around for years – mostly as a guitar riff. I have played the intro and riff for a long time, and have always thought of it as something reminiscent of an acoustic American-era Johnny Cash tune.

I was sitting in a hotel in Canada a few weeks before starting the recording process for this album, and this whole song/story spilled out in a matter of minutes. I’ve always loved westerns, murder ballads, and story songs…and I particularly like when songs paint a big part of the picture but still leave a portion to the imagination.”

Trey handles the guitar and lead vocal, with support from Andy Leftwich on mandolin and fiddle, Mike Bub on bass, and John Alvey on snare.

Hensley and Leftwich both bring the fire to this track, with its fast-moving bluegrass groove, as Trey tells the story of an outlaw romance.

Check it out.

Tucson is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.

The full Can’t Outrun The Blues project is set for a March 6 release from Pinecastle, and Trey says he can’t wait for folks to hear what he’s been working on of late.

“I am so proud of my new album Can’t Outrun the Blues, and I’m so excited for these songs to be out in the world! I’ve had this collection of tunes rattling around for several years now, and it’s a dream come true to work with legendary producer Brent Maher and a monstrous cast of musicians to bring them to life.”

You can keep up with Hensley’s comings and goings online.
