Hell Broke Loose in Georgia from Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands

Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands offer a taste of their upcoming album, O California, with a single track of one of the most popular old time fiddle tunes, expertly played by Right Hands’ fiddler Brandon Godman.

It’s Hell Broke Loose in Georgia, popularized by a 1929 recording of the tune by Gid Tanner & The Skillet Lickers, featuring Riley Puckett and Clayton McMichen. Believed to date back to before the US Civil War, its authorship is unknown.

Godman says that it’s one he particularly enjoys.

Hell Broke Loose in Georgia is one of my favorite fiddle tunes, especially when playing it with the Right Hands. I love the way it moves through the registers, and is the perfect combination of simple and complex.”

Hr is supported by Lewis on guitar, George Guthrie on banjo, and Hasee Ciaccio on bass.

Have a listen.

Hell Broke Loose in Georgia is available now from popular download and streaming services online. Pre-orders for O California, set for release on February 13, are likewise enabled.
