Gator Marsh video from Todd Taylor

Todd Taylor, the South Carolina banjo man in black, is back with a new instrumental release, one he calls Gator Marsh.

Long time fans and regular Bluegrass Today readers know that Todd has faced more than his share of health challenges over the years, suffering for some time from an extremely rare form of muscular sclerosis. He also has asthma to deal with, and has been receiving treatment for a colon cancer that has returned after a previously successful round of chemo and radiation therapy.

But he keeps rolling on, playing his banjo and touring when he can.

He told us a few weeks ago that he discovered Gator Marsh just recently, a song he had recorded almost 20 years ago, but had forgotten about until he was going through an old hard drive before Christmas. There he found an entire album, fully recorded and mixed, that had laid unreleased all this time, placed on the back burner owing to other medical problems some time ago.

So he’s released Gator Marsh to all the streaming and download services, and created this music video of him picking through the tune. It’s a straight ahead bluegrass banjo number, which also features Tommy Wright on fiddle, Lamount Diaz on guitar, Jerry Embry on mandolin, and Mike Moody on bass.

Give it at look/listen.
